UNITED
WORKERS PARTY HOSTS HISTORIC JOINT NATIONAL CONFERENCE FOR YOUTH AND WOMEN IN
MICOUD
Over two thousand youth and
women will converge on the eastern village of Micoud on Sunday, July 7th,
2013 in a historic Joint National Conference of the youth and women arms of the
United Workers Party. The event will
bring together youth and women from all seventeen (17) constituencies with the
main goal of electing national Executives for the Party’s Youth and Women Arms
respectively.
Sunday’s historic event has
been driven by a ground swell of support and phenomenal excitement and
enthusiasm towards the United Workers Party in the build up to its much
anticipated National Convention on Sunday, July 28th, 2013. We are
very mindful of the widespread disenchantment expressed by many St Lucians,
over the massive failure of the Saint Lucia Labour Party Government. As such,
the UWP is moving ahead in a deliberate and strategic manner to position itself
to both mobilize and channel the energies of its women and youth supporters and
Saint Lucians for meaningful change and good Governance in the future.
The July 7th Joint
Conference which is being staged under the theme: “Empowering our Women and Youth … Emerging Leaders”, will serve as a
platform for the Party’s National Convention on July 28th, 2013.
Participants during this weekend’s grand event will receive reports from
sub-committees of the Management Committee set up to mobilze women and youth
towards reorganization of the respective organs of the Party, engage in
revision of updated drafts of constitutions for the women and youth arms and
selection of delegates for the July 28th Convention. The national
audience of women and youth will hear what is expected to be an inspiring
feature address by Dr. Hon. Gale Rigobert, Parliamentary Representaive – Micoud
North who will speak on the topic: “Walking
Wounded but Empowered to Fly”.
The Joint Conference will
conclude with an entertainment segment featuring two artistes from the
constituency in the persons of Hubert “Breeze” Fevrier and the latest national
sensation “General Bakes”.
The historic Joint National
Conference of Women and Youth is expected to be a massive success which will
contribute to stimulating greater interest in the July 28th UWP
National Convention and the process of renewal and transformation of the Party
which has governed Saint Lucia for a period of over thirty years and
transformed the Saint Lucian economy from a post colonial to modern economy.
