PAT BROWN OF THE SAINT LUCIA LABOUR PARTY RIPS HIS GOVERNMENT APART:

AS I SEE IT

By Pat Brown

Regarding my article on the 11 million dollar bridge, as a diehard Labour Party supporter, my adulation was expected. But my comments were not directed at anyone but at the Labour Party, whose habitual performance is to isolate its supporters, and go about its merry ways as soon as an election is won.

Historically, the Labour Party leadership cannot, as deceased Sir John Compton could, claim to have led the Party into its first election victory without the support of professionals and technicians in their several fields of endeavour, and the red mealy bugs whom the Labour Party discarded immediately after the election victory. After the 16-1 landslide victory, instead of uniting a Party which remained in the wilderness for over fifteen years, they divided it in twain with the introduction of New Labour. They discarded Old Labour, and did not extend a hand to the youth, the “red mealy bugs”, or Rastafarians, but kept UWPees in senior positions in the civil service, which contributed to the Party’s decline, culminating in the loss of one seat in the following general elections.

In the next, Labour Party, even with a cadre of Doctors of Philosophy, legal and economic experts, were put to route by a sickly octogenarian who passed away some nine months later.

What followed was a government whose leader was appointed by the octogenarian, and whose accomplishment was overshadowed by the troika who controlled his Cabinet. The rest is a subject of history. But even with a weak and not entirely honest government fighting the following general elections, the Labour Party, with their “An’ rouge, en’ rouge” chants, managed to edge through with an 11-6 victory, with two seats still being contested.

Five Ways To Ruin An Economy

Venezuela's regional energy program Petrocaribe wobbles

Guatemala announced in early November that it was pulling out of Venezuela's Petrocaribe alliance. The Chavez-era oil-for-regional-influence program could be on its last legs.

By Ezra Fieser November 15, 2013

When Guatemala announced it would join Petrocaribe, the alliance where Venezuela sends petroleum to 17 countries at below-market prices, there was little worry about the program’s future. Oil was trading at more than $100 per barrel and Venezuela was sitting atop the world’s largest reserves.

But that was 2008.

Since then, President Hugo Chávez succumbed to cancer, leaving behind a Venezuela with serious economic concerns that put in question his ideology of “Socialism for the 21st Century,” and how flagship programs at home and abroad might be affected. The future of Petrocaribe, a pillar of Mr. Chavez’s foreign policy, is top of mind.

Guatemala announced in early November that it was pulling out of the alliance as the cost of staying within it increased. Guatemala's decision was the clearest sign yet that the program could be on the verge of serious changes.

“Either they save their own regime, or they keep doing what they’re doing, which is contributing oil wealth to friends and associates and comrades. In that case, the whole thing [Petrocaribe] collapses,” says Evanan Romero, an energy consultant who served on the board of PDVSA, the Venezuelan state oil company, until 1999.

While the Venezuelan government has promised to keep Petrocaribe intact, it has quietly cut oil shipments, and may be contemplating pushing up interest rates and modifying repayment terms. Any such changes could have deep and lasting impacts on small countries accustomed to propping up their economies with the shipments.

KENNY ANTHONY EXPOSED (Lie of the century)

What does Kenny know one year on?

In 2012 Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, chairman of the group of principal shareholders in LIAT – the governments of Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados and St. Vincent and the Grenadines – announced that he was confident Dominica and Saint Lucia would buy into the airline’s redevelopment plan. Gonsalves had reportedly made a special appeal to his Saint Lucian comrade, Prime Minister Kenny Anthony, to fast track a decision to increase the island’s investment in LIAT. The government of Saint Lucia is a minority shareholder in LIAT to the tune of EC$6 million.
Prior to Gonsalves jostling, Anthony had met with LIAT’s Board of Directors, Chairman Jean Holder and then CEO Captain Ian Brunton. At the time, Anthony was “circumspect about investment in the financially strapped airline.” He also expressed concern that the new aircraft LIAT was proposing to purchase as part of its fleet expansion was “a tall order for the carrier, which has accumulated millions of dollars in debt.”
However, the prime minister went on to explain that Saint Lucia should be more responsive to the plight of LIAT given that the island provides minimum guarantees for aircraft from other countries bringing tourists into the island. “It seems unfair that we are subsidising other aircraft and we do not extend assistance to LIAT,” Anthony said at the time.

Carrying The VAT Cross

Creole Friday (Vandwedi Kweyol) Oct. 25 provided the ideal opportunity for one citizen to play on St. Lucia’s Creole-English vocabulary to protest the effects of the value added tax (VAT) on himself and the rest of the population.

Using the buzzing Constitution Park/Boulevard as a stage, cultural activist, Laurent Jn Pierre, b.k.a, ‘Jomo’, carried a crown of leaves to resemble the crown of thorns carried by Jesus Christ; a wooden cross fitted with a tie (kwavat) in the traditional ‘madras’ fabric; and two madras ties around his own neck.

Jn Pierre is Chairman of the Folk Research Centre’s Kweyol Language Committee, which organizes Kweyol literacy classes and produces the Kweyol Poetry Competition during Kweyol Heritage Month.

His piece of drama on Kweyol Friday made use of similarly pronounced words in different languages to mean different things. The kweyol word for cross is ‘kwa’, and the word for ‘tie’ (the item of clothing) is ‘kwavat’. Separate the word into ‘kwa vat’ and the direct English interpretation is ‘the cross of vat’!

Figuratively, Jn Pierre was carrying the financial burden of the value added tax on the people. ‘Mwen ka pòté kwa-vat la!’ (I am carrying the cross of VAT), as he himself declared.

According to Jn Pierre, his action on Creole Friday was not only a protest, but also an awareness campaign and political statement.

HAROLD DALSON UNDER SCRUTINY ONCE AGAIN THIS TIME OVER SHADY LAND DEAL: "CABINET CONCLUSION 418"

Investigations into a piece of waterfront property in Soufriere appears to be effecting puzzling reactions from authoritative figures in the government, but then this may all be the imagination of the reporter.

This piece of property, owned by the Crown has a bit of controversy attached to it, so The VOICE has learned, further that more than one proposal has been forwarded to the respective authority by individuals interested in purchasing the said piece of property.

The Cabinet of Ministers on 29th July, 2013 considered a Memorandum dated 26th November, 2012 submitted by the Ministry of Physical Development, Housing and Urban Renewal and approved the sale of that piece of waterfront property, block and parcel No. 0031C 460, comprising approximately 6000 sq. ft. to GMC Holdings Inc. for the purpose of implementing a Tourist Development.

This is Cabinet Conclusion 418: Sale of a portion Block and Parcel No. 0031C 460 to GMC Holdings for the purpose of implementing a touristic development.

No. 418 went on to state that this approval is subject to the purchaser bearing the cost of relocating squatters, and that the Crown should undertake the completion of the surveying and valuation exercises to determine the sale price.

Efforts to get Minister Harold Dalson to comment on the relocation of squatters, he being the parliamentary representative for Soufriere, were pointless.

On Thursday his office on the Castries Waterfront said he was not on the island. Friday morning his office said he was in office. The reporter identified himself and his organization when the spokesperson picked up his call. The reporter was first told to hold on, an indication that he was being put through to the minister. The spokesperson returned and told the reporter to call back in five to ten minutes. The reporter called back twelve minutes after and was told:

… you just missed him. He had an appointment with the Cuban doctors….”

Another reason for seeking out Dalson was this: Saint Lucians would remember the rhetoric of the Labour Party during the last general elections regarding the sale of government lands, the Black Bay lands being the one coming readily to mind.

Gender Justice Advocate Calls for more Human Rights Laws

Felicia Browne
Human and Gender Justice Advocate- Felicia Browne

Shakadan Daniel’s death has drawn much concern in relation to modern legislative laws and litigation where we rely upon the professionalism of custodians and that of the penal system. Though many agree that human rights are of key significance in our society, very little has been done to educate the general populace on the Human Rights Conventions. Human Rights are fundamental to human development and shape our modern understandings of what actions are morally permissible when interacting within our own society. Rights structure very nature of governments, the content of our laws, and the shaping of our moral values and our ability to act responsibly to our fellow humankind. Such moralities and universal values are usually geared towards shaping our human and national development- in relation to personhood, collectivism and patriotism. Felicia Browne, who was recently awarded a Ambassador for Peace, agrees that though our legal and human rights advocates have continued to advocate for justice and peace within our society, not much has been done to educate various sectors on Human Rights. Human Rights have been often seen as a nuisance in many social matters. However, it is imperative that the rights of others, regardless of soci-economic backgrounds, must be upheld by the State and human institution. Victims of human rights violation are becoming an international and global concern. These violations have an extremely devastating effect, not only on the victim but the perpetrator as well. Theories of Victimology recognize that passive victims are more likely to be prone to further abuse within their formative and developmental stages. These may manifest themselves through various forms of violence, which include but not limited to; bullying, rape, suicide, crime and gun violence. In many cases, families of human rights victims are usually prone to further violence or injustices which may create a space for internal and immediate conflicts that are far removed by possible solutions. Browne adds that “Governmental and non-government organisations must not remain at loggerheads with each other, nor remain silent on matters of human dignity. A young citizen has died, and it is the State’s responsible that the general public, including the media, understand how such cases are being handled without any biases or ambiguities.

UWP Town Hall Meeting ....Synopsis.....

The turn out said it all..St Lucians in the Diaspora are not happy with the status quo and are ready ,willing, and able to be part of the CHANGE that ST LUCIANS want and need to see. The Town Hall Meeting held at the Flatbush Avenue YMCA, got off the to the usual innocuous “Lucian Time”, 15 minute late start. (side note- we have to do better with our punctuality My Fellow St Lucians). After being denied use of our St Lucian House (for cliche party political expediencies), the obvious venue of comfort for St Lucians, I must say the feeling of patriotism and love of country was no less absent at the intimate setting furnished by Flatbush YMCA as St Lucians came to parlay with the Leadership of the United Party. Lesson for our Politicians across the divide…You can keep the home from a Lucian, but you can’t take Lucian from his home (but I digress)….

The meeting of like minded PEOPLE as it was advertised on the flyer was honest, no Party bashing, no mapwis “ain’t nobody got time for that”…… Just pure harsh reality on the facts and exchange and sharing of ideas on how WE the PEOPLE while not physically present are can assist in charting and planning our way out of the current mire. And its not like St. Lucians don’t already know all is not well in fair Helen there is also the realization that St Lucians have lost faith in band of good Doctors, who have no remedy for the conditions of malaise that is currently plague or beloved Home Country.

The evening started with invited guest speakers Brian Figeroux, founder and CEO of the New American Chamber of Commerce sharing with St Lucians the power of forming a local chamber of commerce of business minded people and how this in turn can assist with trading opportunities with our St Lucian business counterparts. There is power in numbers my Fellow St Lucians and we need to learn how to use that power to our advantage……

Saint Lucians In New York Denied Use Of Helenites building By Saint Lucia Labour Party Government

IS THE NEW YORK BASED ST LUCIAN HOUSE THE NEW PAWN IN THE POLITICAL GAME OF THRONES

“Good Morning Dane,

This is to inform you that only Government Officials will be permitted to host Town Hall Meetings at the Saint Lucia House”.

Rental Representative

The above is the response I received from the so called “ Board” in charge of management and affairs of the St Lucian House f/k/a the Helenites Center after having gone through the protocol to request use of the House for St Lucian Town Hall meeting with invited guest speakers.

A meeting which for all purposes and intents simply invites all St Lucians from across the Diaspora to meet and parley with like minded St Lucians to find possible solutions and share ideas on how we can contribute to growing and improving the increasingly degrading social and economic situation in our island home.

I was even more disappointed and disillusioned when I was advised that the directive to what I thought was an independent board was given by the St Lucian Consulate. Which begs the question is there now a new mandate given to the handsomely tax payer paid, political favor installed, often square peg in round holes, consul generals et al, to use the resources of the PEOPLE as pawns in its efforts to play petty politics? I wonder because in my mind the tax payers time would be probably be better spent acting to assist and protect the citizens of St Lucia, and to facilitate trade and friendship between the people of the country to whom they are accredited and the country of which they are representative of..... Just a gentle reminder by the way…

Resolving Crime with Education

Felicia Brown

All too often, we see our children in the news. Whether rape, theft or murder, we see too many of our future generation making headlines for all the wrong reasons. We have to now look at ways to reverse the growing trend of youth crime and violence. And, peace education is one of the best ways to resolve and reduce these crimes. Informed learning can provide alternatives to resolve social conflicts within our society. Many young persons may not have the ability to know the difference between crime and its effects on the community, the society and the self. But if clearly demonstrated, they can be taught and in turn, encourage a positive message amongst their peers.

President of the Caribbean Mentorship Institute, Felicia Browne notes that “the past few weeks, and in the last 24 hours we have witnessed a rising trend of violence amongst our youths. There are deep fundamental questions that must be investigated to provide the best solutions to their problems. However, crime-prevention education and conflict interventions can alleviate some of these existing problems. The growing concerns of youth advocates are the age groups and genders of these victims. The victims of violence crimes have little or no social assistance to resolve their problems. For instance, we are observing a trend in young males being victims of violent crimes- some of which are or have been done by either a family member, friend within their circle or someone within their communities.”

Joseph Issues Challenge to Pierre

Guy Joseph, the immediate former Minister of Infrastructure and Public Utilities says he does not mind debating with the current minister of the same ministry, Philip J. Pierre about road projects undertaken during his term in office and Pierre’s present term in office.

Joseph’s acceptance of such a debate came Wednesday during a press conference in which he was pressed to have such an interaction so as to clear up certain aspects of a contract that in some ways has to do with the Ravine Chabot Road.

That road, after two years of the contract being signed, is now impassable to vehicles and has drawn the anger of residents who want the necessary authority to fix the road.

Minister Pierre, at a town hall type meeting with residents a few days ago said that government’s hands were tied where the road is concerned. He said that the UWP government went on a design and built agreement with the then government, meaning that the then government did not have the money to build the road however a contractor told the government that they will build the road for the government and the government would pay them later.

SAINT LUCIA LABOUR PARTY ATTACKS THE SAINT LUCIAN MEDIA; THREATENS PRESS...

INTERNATIONAL PRESS INSTITUTE SPEAKS OUT ON ATTEMPTS TO MUZZLE MEDIA IN ...

International Press Institute Expresses Concern Over Threatened Law Suits In St Lucia:

LONDON, England -- The International Press Institute (IPI) on Thursday expressed concern over the intent behind threats by at least three high-ranking Saint Lucian public officials to sue a local radio broadcaster for defamation after the broadcaster read on-air a Caribbean News Now article alluding to possible wrongdoing by members of the current governing party.

IPI noted that questions have arisen not only as to which content the officials found objectionable; but also as to why the latter have chosen to sue a broadcaster who read a publicly-available news item without comment and not the regional, United States-headquartered online news site that actually wrote the article.

St Lucia Minister Expands Legal Threat To Media

CASTRIES, St Lucia -- Expanding on a press statement released on Friday, in which he announced that he was commencing legal action against a local journalist, Saint Lucia’s minister for legal affairs, home affairs and national security, Phillip La Corbiniere, told reporters that “a number of ministers have also instructed their attorneys to begin to take legal action of various kinds.”

Ironically, the foundation for the threatened action by La Corbinere and others for alleged damage to their reputation appears in turn to relate to allegations that so far unnamed members of the St Lucia Labour Party (SLP) tarnished the reputation of former housing minister Richard Frederick by supplying false information to US embassy officials.

In his formal statement on Friday, the minister did not elaborate on what that legal action was; what conduct or comment he found objectionable; or what others are going to be included in the threatened action.

However, he now claims that he will “not have his reputation destroyed by Caribbean News Now,” which he described as “a ragtag called Caribbean news because it’s nothing more than a ragtag.”

In saying this, La Corbiniere seems to be ignorant of the fact that Caribbean News Now, along with its predecessor publication, has been publishing regional news for over ten years and outranks any other regional website in every measure, usually by several orders of magnitude, with website visitors and page views measured in the millions annually.

Wia ask when will forensic lab be adequately staffed

Was Emma Hippolyte Technically fired as Minister between August 23rd to 28th, 2013?

UWP CALLS FOR CLARIFICATION ON DR. ANTHONY’S DECISION TO ASSUME HON. EMMA HIPPOLYTE’S MINISTERIAL PORTFOLIO

Castries, Saint Lucia – September 26, 2013 – In the August 26, 2013 Extra Ordinary Issue of the Gazette of Saint Lucia, the United Workers Party notes that the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia Acted as Minister for Commerce, Business Development, Investment and Consumer Affairs for the period August 23-28, 2013.
Our information confirms that during that period, the Minister for Commerce, Business Development, Investment and Consumer Affairs, Hon. Emma Hippolyte was out of state on official business approved by the Prime Minister. In fact, based on information from a reliable source in the United States, Minister Hippolyte attended a number of meetings in her capacity as Minister with a number of State institutions and organizations.
The United Workers Party is baffled by the need for Prime Minister Dr. Kenny D. Anthony to assume the office of Minister for Commerce, Business Development, Investment and Consumer Affairs while Minister Hippolyte was overseas conducting legitimate business in her capacity as Minister. It is also important to note that according to our information, Minister Hippolyte was not on vacation or medical leave.
As a result of these perplexed events, the United Workers Party wants the Prime Minister to provide answers to the following questions:
1. Is it a new policy of this Labour Administration for the Prime Minister to act as Minister for any Minister who travels overseas on Government business?
2. If the Prime Minister assumes a Minister’s portfolio, does the Minister who has travelled have full Ministerial responsibilities, authority and privileges while overseas?
3. Do we expect to see the Prime Minister assume other portfolios when other Ministers travel on official Government business?
4. Given that this Prime Minister has not assumed the portfolio of any of his Ministers in the past when they travelled on Official Government business, can he tell us why he found it necessary to act for Emma Hippolyte in this instance or was she technically fired as Minister for the period August 23-28, 2013?

Saint Lucians are finding not so subtle ways of sending messages to this failed SLP Government. The calypso lyrics resonated loud and clear. Bolivian president to sue US govt for crimes against humanity

Bolivia's President Evo Morales
Bolivian President Evo Morales will file a lawsuit against the US government for crimes against humanity. He has decried the US for its intimidation tactics and fear-mongering after the Venezuelan presidential jet was blocked from entering US airspace.

“I would like to announce that we are preparing a lawsuit against Barack Obama to condemn him for crimes against humanity,” said President Morales at a press conference in the Bolivian city of Santa Cruz. He branded the US president as a “criminal” who violates international law.

In solidarity with Venezuela, Bolivia will begin preparing a lawsuit against the US head of state to be taken to the international court. Furthermore, Morales has called an emergency meeting of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) to discuss what has been condemned by Venezuela as “an act of intimidation by North American imperialism.”

The Bolivian president has suggested that the members of CELAC withdraw their ambassadors from the US to send a message to the Obama Administration. As an additional measure he will call on the member nations of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas to boycott the next meeting of the UN. Members of the Alliance include Antigua and Barbuda, Cuba, Dominica, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Venezuela and Saint Lucia.

PRESS STATEMENT

PRIME MINISTER, HOW MANY MURDERS MUST GO UNSOLVED BEFORE TRAINED AND EXPERIENCED FORENSIC SCIENTISTS ARE APPOINTED AT THE TAPION FORENSIC LAB.

The United Workers Party Women in Action (WIA) is concerned with the technical expertise and capacity of the Forensic Laboratory, in light of the many murders that remain unsolved to date. Approximately Ten Million Dollars ($10,000.000) was spent on the construction and commissioning of equipping of what is a state of the art Forensic Laboratory.
WIA understands that after the contract of the Senior Forensic Scientists responsible for Crime Scene, Trace Evidence and Forensic Biology was terminated in January 2012, the contract of a visiting American Forensic Consultant was also discontinued.
The other scientist who was considered senior then proceeded on study and maternity leave, the Lab remains largely unmanned and idle except for the Director and two Junior Forensic Scientists who do not possess the necessary Case Work and Crime Scene Management expertise, to provide critical support to the Royal St. Lucia Police Force and the office of the Director of Public Prosecution which was the main reason for the establishment of the lab.

Housing minister faces fraud allegations as St Lucia government celebrates low-cost housing programme

CASTRIES, St Lucia -- At the same time that the government of Saint Lucia is celebrating the commencement of a multi-million dollar low-cost housing project in the north of the island, allegations of fraud have been made against minister for physical development, housing and urban renewal Stanley Felix.

In 2011, Bau Panel Systems Limited, a company incorporated in Gibraltar, entered into a joint venture agreement with the National Housing Corporation (NHC) of Saint Lucia for the construction of low-cost homes involving the development of approximately 400 acres of land, including 58 acres at River Doree, Choiseul. Charles Broomfield, a quantity surveyor, was engaged by Bau Panel Systems as an exclusive consultant in relation to the joint venture.

According to legal pleadings filed in the High Court in London, Bau Panel Systems now claims it has been the victim of a conspiracy between Broomfield and Felix to destroy its joint venture with the NHC. The purpose of the conspiracy, it is alleged, was to divert the development opportunity vested in the joint venture company, NHC Bau (St Lucia) Limited (NHC Bau), to a new joint venture partner in which Broomfield has an interest, and in the process to take the benefit of the substantial investment by Bau Panel Systems in the development under its joint venture.

¶1.  (C) St. Lucia Prime Minister Stephenson King told the Charge in
a February 10 meeting that his government is struggling to stem the
tide of violent crime that has begun to adversely affect the
country's vital but vulnerable tourism sector.  He is hiring more
police, weeding out corruption in the ranks, and looking to partner
with U.S. local and federal law enforcement agencies in his effort
to reverse the trends.  He was very pleased that St. Lucia will be
the first country in the Eastern Caribbean to receive vessels and
communication equipment through SOUTHCOM's Enduring Friendship
program.  He welcomes the emerging U.S. focus on at-risk youth and
entrepreneurship programs, and would like to see them expanded
through the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI).  St.
Lucia's, Minister of Tourism Chastanet outlined his ambitious plans
for tourism expansion in St. Lucia and challenges he faces in
convincing the government that it needs to do more to support the
industry.  He proposed an agreement in services between the U.S.
and Caribbean to make the Caribbean part of U.S. airspace for
travel purposes, with both sides agreeing to reduce air travel
taxes, which now account for a sizeable portion of air travel costs
in both directions.  End Summary.

United PAC have been reliably informed that the National Television Network (N.T.N), the state owned network was intercepted by police and was made to hand over a tape which we believed to have footage of the Harold Dalson saga in Soufriere. Though it is not clear whether the confiscation was ordered by the government hierarchy, the situation is cause for concern as signs of communism are creeping stealthily into our way of life. At this end, we implore the Media Association if there is such an entity, to look into this matter as it sets a dangerous precedent in Saint Lucia. We have also been informed that other copies of the footage are available and will be made public next week, however, this incident of the police confiscation cannot be let to go unnoticed.

Debunking The Labor Propagandist Theory That Those With Economic Power Should Not Have Political Power - By Dane Gibson

The latest desperate effort by the minion operatives of the St Lucia Labor Party is to plant fear amongst the masses with this idea that, Allen Chastanet being viewed as being part of an establishment, of a relatively fixed group of privileged people that dominate the St Lucian economy could only be detrimental for St Lucia and St Lucians if they were to be allowed to contribute in Government of St Lucia… Of late terms like "Class", "power" and “bourgeoisie” are terms that suddenly make St Lucians uneasy in social media, and concepts such as "power elite" immediately put people on guard. Do these, like Papa Vader put it “Sections” exist? Of course they do … But the beauty of it all MY FELLOW ST LUCIANS is this Dichotomy in our Democracy has also co-existed and continue to without much ado….But desperate times in the labor camp have led to desperate measures and I suspect it is only to mask numerous failing initiatives and lack of vision by this Gov’t, so the they seek to divide to conquer….Typical.

The fact of the matter is MY FELLOW ST. LUCIANS while we may differ in our social and income levels, and some may have more influence than others, there can be no fixed power group when power is constitutionally lodged the hands of PEOPLE, especially when there is democratic participation through elections and when the evidence of social mobility is everywhere apparent. Our Prime Minister himself is a perfect example having come from humble means working his way to lifestyle of comfort. Anther fact is with that elected officials, along with interest groups like our ever present unions and YOU as consumers, together have enough countervailing power to say that there is a more open, pluralistic distribution of power rather than one with rich people and corporations at the top. Perhaps Dr. Tennyson Joseph labor’s esteemed well degreed political scientist and intellect can come true and shed some light on the matter. I’m sure this would make for a more interesting debate

This latest incident comes on the heels of earlier reports of US visa revocations of senior members of the force and a former government minister.

According to local sources, the situation has reached the point where decisive action must be taken on matters concerning money laundering, drug trafficking and extrajudicial killings.

“This series of events is not only embarrassing for Saint Lucia and the status of the island’s law and order, it is a matter that requires further explanation by Prime Minister Kenny Anthony and Senator Philip Victor La Corbiniere Minister for Legal Affairs, Home Affair and National Security,” one local observer said.
